MSLL Tournament Team Info

Summer Tournament baseball is an exciting and rewarding experience that provides an opportunity to continue skill development in a fun and competitive environment. Teams will participate in various exhibition games and tournaments against other Little League associations. To be eligible to play on All-Star and Selects teams, players must meet little league age requirements and either reside or attend school within the Mount Seymour boundaries. Proof of residency is required.

Player Selection

Summer Teams

The summer tournament teams will be selected on the basis of an in-season assessment by a combination of Mount Seymour Little League Coaches and independent evaluators. Input will also be solicited and considered from the players’ spring season coaches. The selection criteria will consider talent, commitment, and availability, together with having a positive attitude and demonstrating MSLL’s values.

Try-outs for summer teams are held in mid-May to late May and will be communicated league-wide mid-season. The teams are as follows:

  • 11/12 All-Stars
  • 9/10 All-Stars
  • 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 Summer Selects

On the basis of the above criteria, the All-Star / Selects Manager will have input in selections taking into account specific positional requirements for the respective team. More details about the full player selection process will be communicated during the season.
All Stars and Selects are competitive post season tournament teams comprising players of similar baseball age. Teams are formed during the regular season and in line with rules and regulations as set out by Little League International.

Spring Season Tournament Teams

In addition to the Summer Tournament season, MSLL will look to participate in various local tournaments at various age groups across the May Long Weekend. These teams operate based on coach interest and will be selected based on the spring minors assessments and notes from Minor and Major coaches.

These May teams are NOT the summer All-Star or Selects team. Participation on a Spring Season Tournament team is not a requirement for selection to All-Star or Select teams, nor is participation in a May Tournament a guarantee for selection for the summer teams.

Upon coach selection, teams will be formed based on interest and using the information from the Spring assessments with input also being solicited from the players’ spring season coaches.

Coach Selection

In order to be selected for a post-season coaching position (Head Coach or Assistant Coach), you must coach 60% of your teams regular season games.

Please complete the Post Season Coach Application Form to apply to coach one of the MSLL post season teams. All applications are reviewed by the MSLL Executive Committee, and the Committee will make all final decisions on coaches.

All Star & Select Team Info

All-Star teams represent Mount Seymour Little League in the sanctioned Little League District 5 and Provincial tournaments. Selects teams promote player development in preparation for the following year’s All-Star tournament teams. See below for further details on each team:

11/12 All Star Team

Players must be baseball age 11 or 12 and have participated in the Spring Majors Division. Up to 13 players will be selected.

Practices and exhibition games will begin immediately upon selection of the teams and may run during the conclusion of the Spring Season. The team will compete in various exhibition games across the lower mainland and potential tournament play in Washington State through June in advance of the District 5 Tournament.

A very high commitment level is required on this team. Between practices, exhibition games, and tournaments, players can expect to be at the ballpark 6 – 7 times a week. The District championships generally run to mid-July. If Mount Seymour continues to advance, the Provincial tournament usually runs from late July into early August followed by the National Championships and the Little League World Series in mid/late August.

This is a competitive level of play and may not involve equal playing time across all players.

9/10 All Star Team

Players must be baseball age 9 or 10. Up to 13 players will be selected.

Practices and exhibition games will begin immediately after the regular season concludes. A very high commitment level is required. Players can expect to practice or play most days. Between practices, exhibition games, and tournaments, players can expect to be at the ballpark 6 times a week from early June through to the end of tournament play (middle to late July depending on results).

The team will compete in various exhibition games across the lower mainland in advance of the District 5 Tournament. The winner of the District 5 Tournament will advance to the Provincial Tournament (middle to late July).

This is a competitive level of play and may not involve equal playing time.

11 Selects

Players must be baseball age 11. The roster size will vary (11 – 14 players).

Practices, exhibition games, and tournaments will begin shortly after the regular season concludes. Commitment is 4 – 5 days per week. Tournaments for these teams run through July. While the availability of players will be a contributing factor for team selection, there is more flexibility to substitute players between tournaments that is not available under the rules for All-Star teams so if you are unable to commit to the full period accommodations will be considered if presented at the start.

9 Selects

Players must be baseball age 9, but strong Baseball 8-year olds may be considered. The roster size will vary (11 – 14 players).

Practices, exhibition games, and tournaments will begin shortly after the regular season concludes. Commitment is about 3 – 5 days per week. Tournaments for these teams run through July. While the availability of players will be a contributing factor for team selection, there is more flexibility to substitute players between tournaments that is not available under the rules for All-Star teams. So if you are unable to commit for the full period, accommodations may be considered.

8 Selects

Players must be baseball age 8, but strong baseball 7s players may be considered. Roster size will vary (11 – 14 players).

Format of play for this level is pitching machine. Practices, exhibition games, and tournaments will begin shortly after the spring season concludes. Commitment is about 3 – 5 days per week. Tournaments for these teams run through late July. While the availability of players will be a contributing factor for team selection, there is more flexibility to substitute players between tournaments that is not available under the rules for All-Star teams so if you are unable to commit for the full period accommodations will be considered.

7 Selects

Players must be baseball age 7.

This age group is more focused on training and fun, as opposed to competitive tournaments. A larger roster will be utilized for all interested players as opposed to a selection based on an assessment. Commitment is 1-2 days per week until late July. Accommodations for any travel plans or conflicts will be considered.

All Star, Select, & Tournament Team Fees

Players that are placed on a team will be required to pay an additional fee. These fees will be based on any additional costs for the team such as customized caps, jerseys, merchandise, umpires, etc. The range for these fees will likely be between $150-$300 depending on the specific team. No player will be denied the opportunity to play on any of these teams if the fee might prevent them from doing so – please be in touch with the League Administrator.
