RS Summer Ball – Volunteers Needed

Last year we ran a Summer Ball program for our Rookie Senior division. We introduced this as a way to give kids the chance to continue playing more baseball during the warm summer months, and also to help prepare them for moving up to AA and drafted teams.

Summer ball is open to 30 kids. We don’t form teams as we expect kids to be travelling and not to be able to fully participate. Instead the program consists of one practice on a weeknight for all kids, and then a game on the weekend. The teams for the game are formed on the fly as the kids arrive at the field – one team is assigned pinnies while the others play in their MSLL grey dry-fit t-shirts. All games follow the regular Rookie Senior rules. Last year we used Wednesday nights 6.30-7.30pm for practice and had the game session at 10am on Saturday morning. The cost for the program was $35.

The program was extremely popular and we would like to run it again this year. However, this does require the commitment of a group of coaches. The dates this year would be starting on June 24th for a first practice and playing the final game on Sat Jul 18th. We need a large enough group of coaches to ensure that each game/practice session is covered by 3-4 coaches. The group last year worked together to share the responsibility of practice planning and covering games.

** So far we only have 2 volunteers to help with coaching. We need at least 4 parents willing to help out to be sure that we can go ahead with the program **

Please can you let me know as soon as possible if you can volunteer as a coach or parent helper for some or all of the Summer Ball sessions. We will not be able to run the program unless we have enough volunteers.

Please email president@msll.ca if you would like to help.
