Mount Seymour Little League (www.msll.ca) is excited today to reveal plans for the development of an additional Majors baseball diamond. “Our league has been growing rapidly over the last few years” said league registrar Connie Cunningham, “this year we have over 600 players and 54 teams in our league.”

With field space at a premium on the North Shore, MSLL instead looked to a revolutionary new idea – The Double-Decker Diamond™

This concept would allow for the building of a second baseball diamond directly on top of the existing Myrtle Park Majors diamond. “Our families love playing at Myrtle Park, so we wanted to find a way to expand the diamonds here,” said President Jasmine Barry, “we also know that some local baseball associations are moving to tiering, so adding a second tier to our Majors field seemed like an obvious choice. “

The Double-Decker Diamond works particularly well for Deep Cove as the lower diamond will become a fully covered field allowing games to go ahead on rainy days. Naturally there are a few wrinkles to consider: players on the lower deck will need to adapt to hitting line drives as balls that hit the upper deck would be an automatic out. Players nervous of heights may be a little wary of playing on the upper tier, however for those looking to get their game to the “next level” the top deck will be a great experience. The excitement of hitting a home run from the top deck should not be under-estimated.

If all goes well MSLL hopes to have the Double-Decker Diamond ready for play by 1 April 2020
